ECO-SERVICES AND WELL-BEING: THE NEXT GREEN CITY
With the urbanization frenzy, there is a global concern on the capacity of cities to produce and maintain healthy environments. Environmental services (E.S.) are vital to human well-being and nature’s integrity: water management, provision of food, air filtration, production of energy, enhancement of natural habitat and biodiversity. International awareness on the importance of these services has grown vastly in the last decade, and this year it makes the theme for the WGIC Bogota.
Interfacing nature and the built environment in cities is the most effective way to augment social, economic and environmental assets altogether. The next generation of green architecture not only will reduce the loads on the environments but be a driver of positive incremental impacts in our cities via eco-services. This is the brilliance of the industries and the built environments that create and recreate nature: green roofs, vertical gardens, sustainable drainage systems and other forms of constructing with or mimicking nature.
At the core of this roadmap towards positive development there are key topics that inspire the latest ideas and projects on green infrastructure presented at WGIC Bogota, 2016:
